Stress Responses 101: Understanding the Nervous System and Strategies to Soothe

with Lynn Barts

Free

Description.

This session provides an overview of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and opportunities to practice a variety of breathing techniques. Breathing techniques can stimulate or calm the nervous system which can assist in our caregiving work with children &/or families. Breathing exercises can have many benefits, including stress relief, improved cardiovascular and respiratory health, and an overall improvement in quality of life. In our work, we may have opportunities to support young children &/or families in regulating their nervous system using simple breathwork techniques. By regulating ourselves using breathwork, we are able to be more present with the children we care for and assist them in learning how to regulate as they develop. Resources for videos & literature on breathwork will be shared.
