Is It Sensory or Behavior? Understanding and Building Supports for Sensory Processing Needs in Your Classroom

with Kenyatta Scott

Free

Description.

Is there a child in your care who shows you that “Sometimes I need…To push or kick my friends, to spin and spin and spin, a bear hug squeeze, to cover my ears with my hands, to wear different clothes, I don’t like tags, or the way my clothes feel, to play rough and break things. to wash my hands, because I don’t like the way some things feel on my hands.” If these sound familiar, it is important to understand the sensory processing system for young children and how it can affect behavior. In this training, we will define sensory processing and sensory needs and will discuss ways to support children showing sensory challenges in your classroom. We all have sensory needs and can feel uncomfortable when we are overwhelmed in our senses, as well as feel lethargic when there is not enough stimulation. This training can help to identify your own sensory needs as well as those of children in your care.
