Humor as a Way to Build a Thriving Classroom

with Sheila Kerwin

Free

Description.

The value of humor and laughter in the lives of adults is well-documented: increased immunity, decreased pain, boosted serotonin levels, better stress management, and optimism. For young children, there are myriad benefits as well: increased problem-solving, critical thinking and perspective-taking; enhanced personal creativity; greater self-confidence; increased optimism and emotional intelligence. In this presentation, participants will explore their own perspective on humor and how humor functions in the lives of young children, along with its developmental benefits; identify specific techniques and activities to embed in planning and curriculum; and ways to use humor to deepen the emotional life of the classroom.
